Why add a metal insert?
A plain rubber gasket can extrude, creep or blow out under high bolt load or pressure, especially at large diameters. Moulding a metal insert into the rubber:
- makes the gasket rigid and easier to handle and install
- resists extrusion and blow-out
- holds the gasket’s shape on large or narrow flanges
Rubber compounds
Natural rubber, Nitrile (NBR), Neoprene, Silicone, Viton, SBR, EPDM and Polyurethane, selected to suit the medium and temperature.
